Ewes

At Barn Raised, all full-blood Dorper ewes are currently retained within our flock as we move through an intentional rebuilding phase. Beginning in 2027, we will begin offering a select number of full-blood ewes for purchase. Each ewe we keep is chosen with purpose—evaluated for strong conformation, steady attitude, and exceptional mothering ability. Alongside our full-blood program, we also produce high-quality commercial ewes each year, which are made available for sale to buyers seeking durable, productive females with proven genetics behind them.

Iris and twins.jpg

Iris

Iris is our most productive ewe to date and holds a special place here as the very first lamb born on our property. She’s an exceptional mother—having produced quads, triplets, and multiple sets of twins—and she leads our ewe flock with the stubborn, bossy confidence only she can pull off. Iris may run the girl group, but she does it well, and her legacy shows in every lamb she raises. She is our highest grossing ewe to date- with quads, triplets, and 2 sets of twins. Iris is now retired!

Venus

Venus was the first full-blood ewe we ever purchased, and she quickly became the undeniable favorite. Sweet with a hint of sass, she’s the only ewe who happily soaks up all the attention meant just for her. A dependable and attentive mother, Venus consistently produces well-built, beautiful lambs that showcase the quality we strive for in our flock.

Minerva.jpg

Minerva

Minerva, Venus’s sister, is our quiet, aloof matriarch—far less interested in affection but tolerant enough to allow a quick pat when it suits her. Despite her reserved nature, she is a dependable, attentive mother with beautiful structure and a large, classic Dorper head. Minerva consistently produces striking, well-built lambs that reflect her strength and refinement.

Maybel

Mabel was one of the first lambs born on our property and is one of the last commercial ewes with Katahdin influence in our flock. We’ve kept her for her exceptional mothering ability and genuinely sweet temperament—traits that make her a favorite here. Though she’s white and cream with just a tiny beauty mark on her lip, Mabel consistently surprises us with the striking all-black lambs she produces, and we adore every one of them.

Lady Flock

The rest of our girl flock follows in the footsteps of the foundation females who shaped our program—Iris, Venus, Mabel, and Minerva. These matriarchs set the standard for structure, temperament, and mothering ability, and the younger ewes rising behind them carry those same traits forward. Together, they form a strong, dependable group of mothers who continue to build the quality and consistency we’re proud of in our flock.
